We are told to get a proper education, most of us can't afford the debt that comes along. We leave these colleges and universities with a lot of debt. k-12 is tax funded why can't public colleges ?

What will you do to avert the corporate take over of Higher Education?

At colleges and universities across the country, Administration and its costs have been ballooning, while vital programs and faculty are being cut, and adjuncts are being underpaid and overworked.

What measures would you take to improve education in this country?

Education and literacy are the core of an evolving society. However it is flawed with high costs, huge bridge to the work force and we currently are 10th in the world graduation rate (source: oecd).

Would you support a cap on student loan interest?

I want to pay my student loans, but I can't ever because of interest. If you simply put a cap on the amount of interest that can accrue for the lifetime of loan, problem solved for 80% of us!

What will you do to keep religious teachings and ideas out of our public schools?

Increasing legislation in many states challenging the secular and scientific fact based teaching. Need federal legislation once and for all to stop this.

Is tuition free college really possible?

Would it be too much to ask for congress to actually pass the bill. This would require everyone to agree. Wouldn't it be more realistic to make universities flat rate, and erase interest rates?

60 years ago education at California state universities was virtually free. Most European countries have free college education.

Do you support access to high quality early care and education for every child?

Investments in young children have a high return and are essential for equal opportunity. Child care allows parents to work & be more productive employees. This should be as high a priority as K-12.

What do you think about focusing more on critical thinking skills at K-12?

At the college level and in private schools, they focus on critical thinking more than in public schools. College is too late for many and obviously only the affluent can afford private schools.

Would you or did you support a bill to raise teachers minimum salary?

There was been a bill in 2015 that, if passed, would raise minimum salary for all "instructional personnel" to 50k which can help both students, schools, and teachers in a number of ways.

What will you do to improve our schools systems?

Florida has always been a low ranking state in regards to k-12 school quality and education of the youth. Many kids drop out due to lack of school funding, engagement, poor parents, or other reasons.

What are you going to do to expand student capacity at public colleges?

To study something useful like ultrasound or, radiology tech we are forced to enroll at shady for profit colleges because there is no space for more than a few hundred students at public institution.

Would you increase PreK-12 funding to fight poverty's impact on school success?

Millions of children live in poverty. It is known that removing the barriers of poverty directly improves readiness and the ability to learn. But philanthropy and non profits can only do so much.
